Solomon Mulugeta Kassa
TV Personality, tech consultant, strategist, author, and public speaker
Solomon Mulugeta Kassa was born and raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He then received a
scholarship to America Washington University in 2005 after completing grade 12 in
Ethiopia. Adjusting to life in the USA wasn’t smooth. Solomon had only 120 dollars at the
time, and his scholarship only covered roughly 65% of his expenses. So, in order to complete
his education, Solomon began working at a convenience shop, sweeping the floor and
shelving beers while crashing at his friend’s studio.
After a while, Solomon got a job as a front desk supervisor at a hotel, and he went to school
during the day, beginning at Northern Virginia Community College, where he received another
technical associate degree. Solomon eventually earned a Bachelor of Science degree from
Strayer University in Washington, DC in 2008. For the next five years, he began his career as a
software engineer for the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He then received his Master
of Science degree in Information Systems Technology Management from George Washington
University in 2011 Solomon.
Currently, Solomon Kassa works for Deloitte, a Fortune 500 global consulting business, as a
Senior Technology Consultant. He is also the producer and host of the Amharic TV Show
“TechTalk with Solomon” which airs on Ethiopia Broadcasting Services (EBS), where he
examines the topic of Science and Technology and interviews numerous highly talented
Ethiopian-Americans in the field of science and technology. TechTalk with Solomon has
inspired so many youths with its unique tech-related content.
Solomon was honored with the 2016 Society of Ethiopians Established in the Diaspora (SEED)
award for his outstanding dedication to producing and anchoring a science and technology
show in his home tongue, Amharic, for an audience of millions. Solomon also Published a
groundbreaking, all-Amharic book on the subject of science and technology called Girimte
ScieTech (The Wonder of SciTech): Glancing the Greate Human Civilization Through Yesterday,
Today and Tomorrow.
the First Amharic publication of its kind both in content and detail. it covers major scientific
moments in history, their effect on the world, and their relations to Ethiopia from the
industrial revolution to the information age. the book also contains a reflection on the future.
where are we headed? and what is our role? it talks about Africa in general and Ethiopia in
Solomon wanted to do more to bring about digital disruption and transformation in Ethiopia,
so in 2020, he set up 1888 EC, a one-of-a-kind tech startup studio and innovation co-working
center in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa. 1888 E.C is a unique & innovative startup
studio that aspires to empower so many young innovators, with the motto “Victory Re-
imagined”. The name itself came from the Victory Day of Adwa which is a symbol of Pride for
Ethiopians and Africans.
In addition to his achievements in the field of technology, Solomon has a diverse range of
interests and hobbies. Solomon is left-handed and has a strong interest in art and design. He
enjoys interior design, fashion, playing musical instruments (piano and drums), spending time
with family and friends, and participating in outdoor sports such as jet skiing, skydiving,
roller-coaster rides, swimming, biking, ground tennis, and soccer.
